Can you introduce yourself and your creative work/interests?
Nakiah Varcianna - I'm a screenwriter/director from Nottingham, now based in London.
My main interests and projects worked on have been short narrative films, but I'm now beginning to branch out into music music videos and documentaries.
What are you currently working on?
I'm currently working on a video for a music producer and also a short music documentary featuring some Tottenham musicians. I'm also working on another narrative film... a four-part drama which I'm in the process of developing the story for right now - so there's a few things coming.
What are your future creative ambitions?
My future creative ambitions are to progress to directing commercials for top brands and companies; also to write and direct my first feature... which I hope to start pre-production for in the next year.
What advice would you give people aspiring to work in a similar creative field?
My advice to those aspiring to work in a similar field would be, first and foremost;
- Create and continue to work on your portfolio. You will have a much better chance of getting work when you have example of previous work you have. Whether you're an actor, director, editor... a showreel is essential to you.
- Networking and meeting people in your field of work is crucial. There is nothing better than making a positive, in-person impression on people who work in places you want to be.
- Create the stories you want to see. Your vision and your story is what makes you unique. Don't be afraid to show it.
As Halloween is around the corner, what will you be dressing up as?
It's a good question, I haven't thought about it as of yet, but now you've asked - it has to be Jules Winnfield. For film fans who don't know who that is, you should feel bad! A Big Kahuna Burger should make you feel a bit better, though ;).
