Profile

More

I am a young director currently based as Artistic Director of REND Productions and Associate Director at Omnibus Arts Centre in Clapham. Last year I spent 9 months at the RSC working as Assistant Director to Erica Whyman on Marina Carr's searing new version of Euripides' HECUBA before launching my company REND Productions with the English premiere of Howard Barker's THE TWELFTH BATTLE OF ISONZO as part of an "★★★★ exhilarating and provoking" (The Stage) HOWARD BARKER DOUBLE BILL at the Arcola (25 Nov - 19 Dec 2015).

I am passionate about theatre that stimulates, challenges and moves audiences by activating the beating human heart of neglected, difficult or habitually-interpreted plays and stories. I create thrilling theatrical experiences that will connect audiences with truthful, powerful stories that ask incisive and potent questions about what it means to be human.

In 2013, I directed and creatively produced Omnibus' inaugural production: an ACE-funded centennial adaptation of WOYZECK. In 2012, directed the Off West End Award-nominated UK Premiere of Howard Barker's LOT AND HIS GOD (★★★★ “Robyn Winfield-Smith's shrewd, searching production is full of light and dark and boasts a quartet of terrific performances”, Lyn Gardner), with the rare support and approval of the playwright, at the Print Room.

Prior to my assisting at the RSC, I assisted on the Donmar Trafalgar world premiere of Conor McPherson’s adaptation of Strindberg’s THE DANCE OF DEATH, having assisted Lucy Bailey and Edward Bond, and worked for a year at Chichester Festival Theatre. I am fascinated by the different ways I can facilitate the skills of actors and creatives to rediscover, reactivate and reimagine classic or neglected stories for a contemporary audience in order to ask urgent questions about society.
