Freelance Theatre Director.

In 2010 I co-founded, and was artistic director of, AllthePigs Theatre Company. A collaboration of theatre makers who believed that good writing should last forever. Although new writing is the driving force behind most of what I do I also have a bugbear with it, the pressure and the immediacy for new writing tends to lend itself to ‘one-night only’ type shows. Writers write, get published and then sit on dusty shelves. We would find pieces that had only been performed once and then produce and perform them again. Alongside this we would champion a brand new writer to write a new piece of theatre. The two shows would stand aside each other with us asking the audience to ‘pay their money’ for the published piece – therefore discovering a new writer, pressure-free, for free. For this I would work closely alongside the new writers, work-shopping their scripts offering constant feedback and then teaming them up with professional directors and actors before staging their debut works. We called this our ‘first time writers initiative’ and in my 4 years with the company 12 writers came through to see their shows staged.
After AllthePigs I became artistic director of Epoch Presents, a ‘semi-immersive’ theatre company working out of The Vaults in Waterloo. We celebrate ‘time’. We pick a certain era or movement in time and then commission 3 bespoke pieces of theatre to run as part of an evening of collaborative work.
The companies we worked with would be a blend of established and fledgling fringe companies, with as much emphasis on nurturing and promoting new talent as showcasing experienced theatre makers. As well as sourcing companies to collaborate with I was also responsible for all ‘other’ artistic involvement engaging comedians, cabaret artists, beat poets, DJ’s, bands, musicians as well as some more niche outlets of the weird and wonderful.
Directing credits with Epoch include 1985 (2015), THIS IS FILM NOIR (2015), THIS IS THE FACTORY (2015 Vault Fest), THIS IS THE MILLENIUM (2014), 1950 (2014) and 1993 (2013).
