Mark Maughan is a theatre director and maker with a special interest in developing ideas with artists from the early stages of a project, dramaturgy and international work.

Upcoming: awarded Arts Council England funding for a UK wide tour of 'The Claim' by Tim Cowbury in Autumn ’17 / Spring ’18, on the subject of the UK asylum system, with significant wraparound activities and support from organisations like UNESCO. 

Recently: recipient of the Artists International Development Fund, a joint award between Arts Council England and The British Council, developing two new projects in Colombia with two established theatre companies; awarded the Jerwood Choreographic Research Project 'PORNO' with Dan Daw, residencies at Sadlers’ Wells and Dance 4 in development for 2018/19 full production; directing mentor to Tamir Theatre company in Ukraine via British Council, on their radical adaptation of 'The Pitmen Painters' by Lee Hall; wrote and directed the National Portrait Gallery's choral audio guide commission, read by Simon Russell Beale; 'Open Plan' by Marcelo Dos Santos, a new commission at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.  

Reader for various theatre across the UK. Member of the Cross Channel Group hosted by the French Institute in London. Translator of French and Spanish scripts, recently translated 'De Passage' by Stephane Joubertie for Boundless Theatre.
