More

Hi, I'm Hannah. I'm a theatre director and dramaturg based in the South West of England and have spent most of 2017 as resident director for the National Theatre's tour of Jane Eyre, directed by Sally Cookson. I trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (2009-10) where I won the Elsa Roberts Prize for Directing. I subsequently spent a year on placement at the Rondo Theatre in Bath - a fantastic fringe venue specialising in new work and an eclectic programme - of which I am now an Associate Director.

In 2014 I teamed up with actor/producer Justin Palmer to found Insane Root - a Bristol-based company creating site-specific productions of classical texts. Our inaugural production of Shakespeare's Macbeth took place in the Redcliffe Caves in July 2015, returning for an extended 6-week run in the summer of 2016. We subsequently produced a new interpretation of the classical myth Orpheus & Eurydice within Clifton Suspension Bridge, which received national acclaim, and have just completed a radical reimagining of The Tempest in St John on the Wall's Crypt.

In addition to directing I have dramaturged a number of plays and acted as Script Reader for the Tobacco Factory, Rondo Theatre and Bristol Old Vic. I am also a regular Visiting Director at the University of Cumbria and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and have taught at the University of Bath Spa as well as running theatre workshops.

Recent projects:
The Tempest - St John's Crypt, Bristol Centre (December 2017)
Jane Eyre - National Theatre / Bristol Old Vic (National Tour 2017) - Resident Director

In development:
Romeo & Juliet - Eastville Swimming Pool (June/July 2018)
Hansel & Gretel - Insane Root, Leigh Woods (Autumn 2019)
